If you have a multimeter, you should be able to test whether the excessive power draw is resolved or not (if you have door code/buzz, then I guess you should be able to tell if it goes away).Alternators can fail at any time, but generally they last over 100,000 miles. So, spray the lubes through the holes, wait a bit so that they will work in, then start moving the latch back and forth and hope that it free up the cam gear (IF that is the issue - on my passenger side latch, it was NOT the issue, I had to eventually swap the latch with new one to make it work but on my driver's side, it was stuck gear and moving the latch around and using the lube worked - only that I did it while the latch was out so I could target the joints more accurately though). If you put a flat head screw driver to the slot there (there is small slit on the latch itself if you look close), then you can move the latch around without actually closing the door, you will have to use the door handle to open the latch out again (do not close the door with latch closed out). IF you can determine that the switches under the white plastic cover is bad, then you will need a new latch since as far as I know, there is no ready replacement part you can order.Ĭlick to expand.Yup. (this one has about 75-80% chance of success). IF you can determine that if either or both 2 visible switches are bad, then you can order the new switches and replace those and you SHOULD be good. IF switch itself is bad, then you will have to either swap the latch with new one (I suggest getting a new one instead of used one off of ebay or local junk yard as this part appear to go bad quite often right around this age) or pull the latch out, test the switches. This COULD free up the jammed up gears and latches and it could work itself to close out the switch IF switch itself isn't bad. Just spray front and back (inside the hole) and work the latch manually using a screw driver or something. It helps if you bend the straw around 45degrees and spray towards down wards. On the rear side of the door, there are 3 bolts holding the rear latch, undo 1 bolt at a time, and put straw like item through it and spray some lithium grease (WD40 may work but it isn't really a lubricant so even if it frees up the gears, you should follow up with some grease). I say FIRST thing to try IF you do not want to open the panels and pull out the rear latch, try this method which will probably work around 20% of the time (I pulled this # out of my ass but success rate is definitely low end.) solution since you need to plug it back in to drive safely. You can see replacement instruction here (you can also buy the cable from there too, but I never had to replace my cable yet - knock on wood - so I do not know this guy's product quality):Ĭlick to expand.Yes, pulling #7 is temp. Now, for the cable, my understanding is that you will need to repair/replace the cable even if you want to operate it manually only. However, once you see how easy it is to remove and (fix possibly) replace the part, it isn't really worth the hassle. Since the drain is rather small, small solar panel should be enough to keep the battery from draining fully. When I had this issue, I DID consider just getting a solar panel connected to the OBD port to charge the battery. So, you do need to put that in when you want to drive. However, that disables various other functions - NAV/Radio/power door/power sliding door/dash lights/etc. IF you just want to keep the car from draining battery, you can pull #7 fuse from Driver's side to prevent it from draining the battery. Do NOT go by beeping noise as there is only 1 place where it beeps (rear passenger side) no matter which door you are having an issue with (passenger or driver side sliding door - ask me how I know). Make SURE that the issue you are having is with passenger side door latch. See this video for pulling the code - it is in the beginning of the video about 1:30 in (slow the video down to see it in correct speed - 0.75x): If you do get an error message, you can check the code to display (if your battery is not totally drained as that clears out the code - same for pulling the fuse).
